Get out your magnifying glasses and dust off that notebook because Masked singer returns to turn a nation of viewers into couch detectives.

The unique contest, again hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, features 13 mysterious celebrities singing familiar tunes on stage, wearing costumes that obscure who they really are.

Along with the studio audience and the viewers at home, judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross are guessing.

In the first episode of the season on New Year’s Day, Ghost was eliminated and later turned out to be a football star Chris Kamara.

However, we have a long season ahead of us, in which many more costumes will have to be unveiled. Here’s a guide to the tips and guesses so far.

Who is the otter?

Wydra made her first appearance in Episode One with an impassioned rendition of “I’m Always Here” by Jimi Jamison – a.k.a. Sunwatch the sound of the leading theme.

Clues given in their first video pack included the acronym “COUNCIL”, the fact that Wydra is “renowned for her resilience”, a cloverleaf, and the chance appearance of a vicar.

“Otters are naturally curious creatures and a bit naughty,” said the hero.

So far, the names of Phoebe Waller Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Ted’s father actor Paulina McLynn and Una Healy of The Saturdays.

One of the most discussed fan suggestions on social media is that the infamously elusive singer Kate Bush he is under a bizarre costume.

Who is jellyfish?

Jellyfish debuted with the Guns N’ Roses classic “Sweet Child O’ Mine”.

Prior to her performance of the rock hit, Jellyfish’s video cues were as follows: a beach sign reading “How Loa can you Goa?”, staggeringly high heels, and a shell fossil.

So far, possible jellyfish-related names have been included X factor fifth season champion Aleksandra Burek, brass star Michelle Keegan, RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and “Love Me Like You Do” singer. Ellie Goulding.

Who are Cat and Mouse?

The only contestants this year to work as a duo, Cat and Mouse entertained the judges on the first episode with their rendition of “Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)” from Annie Take the gun.

The clues revealed in the first episode included the number 200,000,000 written in a notebook.

Cat said he is “no stranger to laws” and likes to “get to the heart of the matter” as well as knowing “how to tell stories”. The video package also showed five different spice jars lined up.

Some fans guessed the duo to be Spice Girl Emma Bunton and her husband Jade Jones. Meanwhile, others are convinced that Cat and Mouse are a married coupleShirlie and Martin Kemp.

Who is Phoenix?

Phoenix made their stage debut with a jazz-inspired version of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”.

Their guidance package suggested that they had “risen from the ashes” and had been “reincarnated.” Phoenix also said they were good at “secrets” and “following the trail” before the character was shown inspecting footprints with a magnifying glass.

These clues, along with the performance, have led to speculations such as David Tennant (former Doctor Who star), Take That’s Jason Orangeformer child actor Nicholas Hoult and influencer Joe Sugg.

According to the trailer leading up to Knitting’s first appearance, they are no strangers to arts and crafts: the character was seen cutting scraps of paper into geometric shapes.

Knitting then sang “Remember” by Becky Hill. The vocal stylings have led to speculations such as the presenter Horse Huq, Absolutely fantastic actor Jane Horrocks, big brother host AJ Odudu and the West End Samantha Barks.

Following Knitting’s performance, the show’s official Twitter account shared the following conundrum: “Knitting is easy, it’s cross stitching. Count all your stitches, there should be 26 of them.

One viewer used 26 to inform a former member of the dance-pop group Steps of his guess Claire Richards. “When you add together the @OfficialSteps hit ‘5+6+7+8’ it makes 26,” they wrote. “It’s Claire Richards!”

On Saturday (7 January) Rubbish will perform for the first time.

“I’m the one you’re waiting for in the bin, and I’m here to work… clean up, that’s what I do best… I’m here to pick up garbage, or as some people call it, garbage,” he said.

The garbage seemed to imply that he was in a band, but later went solo. The next clue appeared in the form of a red basket with the word “No. 1” written on it.

He performed “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams.

Trash can potentially mask the identity of someone known for handling waste and cleaning, such as TV stars Kim Woodburn (How clean is your house?) and Maria Kondo (Cleaning with Marie Kondo).

Other guesses include an actor Dean Gaffney, singer Antoni Kostand a rapper Zloty.

Who is the Jacket Potato?

Likewise, we’ll learn more about Potato when they make their first appearance.

So far, there’s only one vocal clue about the Potato in the Potato, which is “Their vocals are sure to crush you – it’s the Potato in their Jackets!”

Their attire consists of a silver jacket, a baked bean print blouse, and a butter hat.

Already, fans have speculated that Jacket Potato could be either a famous chef Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliveror one of the actors from dinner ladiesSuch as Maxine Peake.

Who is a rhino?

Until Rhino makes his first appearance, the only minor verbal hint about the character is: “They were horn like that – it’s Rhino!”

One name in the minds of fans is Joanna Lumley, patron of the charity Rhinos’ Last Stand. Elsewhere, some have suggested the country star (and Miley’s father) Billy Ray Cyrus as a horned mammal because their costume was a red cowboy outfit – complete with a flashy cowboy hat.

Fawn’s glamorous costume made a splash among fans on Twitter, with some already betting on them to win.

One person guessed it was Fawn Faye Tozer of Steps.

She asked for five sugars with her tea before remarking, “Like a fawn, I admit I was a bit awkward when I was young.”

The judges noted that she was wearing a necklace that said “Sandy”.

“Call me a boffin, but math was a passion … which my brain later helped me win later in life,” she said. “Now I’m an adult and I’m not awkward at all.”

Fawn sang “Tale as Old as Time” from the Disney musical Beauty and the Beast as her debut, She impressed the judges with her voice. Some viewers immediately suggested Karol Vorderman she was behind the mask given her previous period Counting down.

Rita Ora guessed the British actor Hannah Waddinghamwhile Mo Giligan thought it might be Kim Woodburnbut admitted he was struggling.

Jonathan Ross decided it was the former Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng, while Davina McCall thought it was a Spice Girls singer Mel C

“I live in a cabin, but not in a palace… I’ve been to Wonderland, but my name isn’t Alice,” Fawn said in response to her riddle.

Who is a Piece of Cake?

With enough clues, figuring out who Piece of Cake was was…easy.

Ahead of Piece of Cake’s first performance on Saturday, January 7, the only clear hint about the character was the announcement, “Could this be a baking story? It’s a piece of cake!”

Some fans guessed it was someone famous for their skills in the kitchen – like the former Great British Bake Off judge Maria Berry.

Viewers first saw Piece of Cake on Saturday’s episode on January 7, when she sang Ed Sheeran’s hit “Shiver”.

Gilligan guessed the Icelandic singer Bjork after Piece of Cake’s first performance, while McCall guessed it was DJ Anne Mac. Ross thought he was a comedian ruby wax, while Ora admitted she had “no idea” but was guessing Kylie Minogue.

The Piece of Cake riddle was, “My frosting is white, pinkish, and blue, for candy, I’m a few.” Some viewers took this as an indication that she was a Scottish singer Lulu, who won Eurovision in 1969. They were later proven to be right as Piece of Cake made it to the top 3 and was later unmasked as Lulu.

Last but not least, Pigeon rounds out Masked singer class of 2023

So far, the only audible clue for the feathered figure was, “It must be a dove – it’s a Dove!”

With so little to do, online fans were creative in their guesses, with suggestions from Coleen Rooney to the pantomime star Krzysztof Biggins.
