Over the past 12 months, we have witnessed unforgettable moments in fashion. But the most popular of all? Blake Lively performance at the Met Gala.
The actress’s breathtaking Versace dress, which went from one color to another on the red carpet, was named the most influential celebrity of 2022 in a survey conducted by digital agency Media Vision, which looked at over 200 fashion moments and the number of searches, engagement and social media stats to calculate the most impactful moment.
As part of the Met Gala 2022 theme – “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” and the “Gilded Glamor” dress code – Lively wore a New York-inspired Atelier Versace gown. Initially, the actress appeared on the red carpet in a shimmering rose gold gown with an extravagant bow that paid homage to the Empire State Building and New York City’s intricate architecture.
The arch then unfurled to become a cascading blue train inspired by the changing color of the Statue of Liberty over the years. Its tiered seven-rayed crown also paid homage to the famous statue, and the blue train featured elements of the constellation decor at Grand Central Station.
Another Met Gala moment was among the top ten most influential, with Marilyn Monroe’s Kim Kardashian dress taking second place. Her sister Kourtney Kardashian followed closely with the Dolce & Gabbana wedding dress she wore to marry Travis Barker in Italy.
Florence Pugh Valentino’s viral gown ranked fourth, in the brand’s popular hot pink shade. She wore this dress at the brand’s fashion show in Rome and consequently shut down people who were ashamed of their bodies after the dress sparked debate about its transparency.
Fashion Week moments dominated the rest of the top ten, with Bella Hadid’s Coperni dress sprayed in Paris, Kate Moss on the Bottega Veneta runway in Milan and a front-row appearance by Julia Fox.
Royal fashion was also on the list, as were the earrings chosen by the Princess of Wales for the Queen’s funeral.
The Met Gala will return on the first Monday in May 2023, dedicated to the late Lagerfeld.
