It’s a new year at Paramount+ UK and this January marks the return of Paramount’s current Chief Executive Taylor Sheridan with a new series of politically charged crime drama series Mayor of Kingstown.
Elsewhere, there’s a double header of werewolf fun. Five years after the television series ended, the MTV incarnation of Teen Wolf returns in film form, reuniting most of the original cast members. Elsewhere, Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to the world of supernatural teen thrillers when she appears in Wolf Pack.

Cocaine Godmother (January 6)
Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as the title character in this crime thriller based on the true story of Griselda Blanco, queen of the Medellin drug cartel. Born in Colombia, Blanco immigrated to the US in the 1970s and set up a drug business in New York before moving to Miami and becoming a key figure in the “Miami Drug War” of the 1970s and 1980s. Interestingly, Netflix is also working on a series about Blanco, in which Sofía Vergara will play her.
The Last Victim (January 6)
In this neo-noir thriller from debuting director Naveen A. Chathapuram, the title character is Ali Larter, a scientist who witnesses the cover-up of a horrific crime committed by Ralph Ineson’s group of outlaws. The group pursues her in hopes of making her their “last victim”, but Ron Perlman’s sheriff hopes to catch them first and save her.
Teen Wolf (January 27)
The TV show Teen Wolf, featuring a very modest collection of 1980s Michael J. Fox movies, aired for six seasons on MTV from 2011 to 2017. This feature-length outing serves as a sequel to the series, with many of the original cast returning – including Tyler Posey starring as Scott McCall. The film follows the rise of a new evil in Beacon Hills, forcing Scott to assume the role of alpha and reunite his friends to fight back.
New TV shows on Paramount+ UK in January 2023
Love Rats: Volume 2 (all episodes from January 3)
The first part of this documentary series aired in September and featured women telling horror stories about misbehavior and crime in the dating world. It features brave women who hope to warn others with their tales of bigamists, cheaters, and nightmarish cheaters.
Challenge: Australia (all episodes from January 4)
The long-running reality show The Challenge lands in Australia where 22 promising candidates are put to the test with a selection of physical and mental tasks. The contestants are mainly known for participating in other reality shows, including Love Island and Ninja Warrior.
Mayor of Kingstown S2 (weekly from January 16)
Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon’s Michigan crime drama series returns with a second season, continuing the fortunes of the McLusky family of power brokers led by Jeremy Renner as Mike. The series tackles topics such as systemic racism and the prison industrial complex, exploring power and politics in contemporary America. The cast also includes Dianne Wiest, Tobi Bamtefa, Aidan Gillen and Kyle Chandler.
The Challenge UK (daily from January 17)
In addition to the Australian version of the show, The Challenge is also set to debut its first UK season on Paramount+. Rumors suggest Big Brother, Love Island, TOWIE and Under Deck stars will be among those taking on the physical and mental challenges.
Are you the one? Global Edition (Episodes 1-2 January 19, weekly thereafter)
In one of the most ambitious dating series ever attempted, Are You The One? brings together 22 recently single men and women from around the world to see if they can find the perfect match. Singles stand a chance of winning a ton of money if they can match all 11 “perfect matches”.
Chemistry of Death (weekly from January 19)
Harry Treadway stars as forensic anthropologist Dr. David Hunter in this adaptation of Simon Beckett’s psychological thrillers. After years of police work, he moves to a quiet countryside in hopes of a more peaceful existence. But when a mutilated corpse turns up in the woods, the local police recruit him for his exceptional skills.
Wolf Pack (weekly from January 27)
Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis appears to be something of a werewolf specialist, continuing the series with an adaptation of Edo van Belkom’s 2004 book. It is about a group of teenagers who come together when wildfires awaken supernatural creatures. It’s probably not a spoiler to determine what these creatures are, right? Sarah Michelle Gellar, known from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is also in the cast.
