Sir Elton John thanked his fans for being “amazing” and said he was now “fag to the metal” in a celebratory New Year’s message.
The Rocket Man singer, 75, was among the many famous faces who bid farewell to the 2022 news on social media as new year celebrations kicked off around the world.
In a video posted on his Instagram, Sir Elton, who celebrated the arrival of 2023 in Australia, said: “Hello everyone! Happy New Year! Happy New Year is already in Australia, not in most places in the world.
“But I wanted to take this opportunity very early in 2023, thank you for 2022, it has been amazing and hopefully 2023 will be just as good.
“But you were amazing. Your support was great. I love you very much and next time we will meet in Newcastle, Australia on January 8th. From then on, pedal to the metal until July 8 in Stockholm. Goodbye!”
Sir Elton is currently playing around the world on his farewell tour, which will end this summer.
Sir Paul McCartney kept the message short and sweet.
Next to the picture of him, he wrote: “Happy New Year to everyone in the world – Paul. #New Year’s Eve.”
Elsewhere, David Beckham celebrated with his wife Victoria and three of their four children.
Sharing a photo of the family standing in front of the fireworks display, the 47-year-old former soccer player said he missed his eldest son Brooklyn, who celebrated elsewhere with his wife Nicola Peltz.
He wrote: “Happy New Year from BECKHAM. We love you @brooklynpeltzbeckham we miss you. 2023.”
Elsewhere, former One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne reminisced about the past year.
Tomlinson, 31, shared a photo carousel with the caption: “At this time last year I had no idea what year I was going to be.
“Places I’ve seen, people I’ve shared memories with, concerts I’ve been lucky enough to play. I will never forget it.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make this year so special.
“I can’t wait to see what next year brings us!”
Meanwhile, Payne, 29, teased the possibility of new music, writing: “Happy New Year… I hope 2023 brings you everything you’ve ever wanted.
“Hell, who knows, maybe even some new music. Have fun x”
Australian actor Hugh Jackman called in 2023 with an espresso martini to wish fans a happy new year.
The 54-year-old actor Wolverine posted a video on Instagram of himself enjoying a cocktail and said: “Happy New Year to all of you. Lots of love.”
