Paris Haute Couture Week, which takes place every two years, started on Monday, February 23 with a big bang.

Schiaparelli, the first scheduled show, caused the internet to crash when Kylie Jenner showed up with a huge and incredibly realistic fake lion head on the front. Then came Doja Cat, who gleamed in the morning sun thanks to the large amount of ruby crystals covering her face and upper body.

The extreme look was achieved by acclaimed makeup artist Pat McGrath, who shared confidential details with Vogue. “Collaboration with the unparalleled talent Doja Cat i [Schiaparelli creative director] Daniel Roseberry was an absolute pleasure,” she said. “Her patience and dedication as she sat with Pat McGrath’s team and me for four hours and 58 minutes to create a piece covered in over 30,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals was truly inspiring.” This marks an early start for the singer, given the show’s 10am start time.

The couple sat on either side of Marisa Berenson, the 75-year-old granddaughter of the late founder of the house, Elsa Schiaparelli. Berenson was a successful model discovered in the 1960s by legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland. She was spotted posing for a selfie with Jenner at F’row.

It was a bold start that was only fueled by debate over the appropriateness of Jenner’s outfit and other taxidermy-inspired looks that popped up on the runway.

Later, on opening day, Christian Dior attracted an avalanche of actresses. Among them were the most recent Diana, Elizabeth Debicki, who brought her sister Catherine as a guest, Rosamund Pike, Kirsten Dunst and Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones.

Anna Wintour was also spotted with longtime friend and director Baz Lurhmann and his wife, costume designer Catherine Martin, while the legendary Bianca Jagger made a rare appearance, wearing silk white pajamas and an ankle-length cream coat with military braids.
